DISTRICTS /
ŠTVRTE, BARRIOS, ČTVRTI

Photo exhibition, Prague, 2012

Everybody that grew up in a city will remember his/her district: its atmosphere, smell and noises. The district is the closest environment one creates links with. It is the space that allows us to develop as individuals. The city might be enormous, leaving us as unknown figures. The district is closer to human scale, indulgent with its inhabitants. It is an entrance door to the city itself.

ŠTVRTE, BARRIOS, ČTVRTI / DISTRICTS is a collective project focused on the lesser-known districts of Prague. Photographers Betiana Bellofatto (Argentina), Michal 2Can (Slovakia), and Valentina (Czech Republic) express their ways of seeing, covering and understanding the neighbourhoods. Each of them has chosen a part of Prague to go deep in and search for places, moments, stories, characters, identities, etc.

Betiana Bellofatto´s work focuses on Praha-Holešovice station and its industrial, deteriorated atmosphere. This express the history of the place way deeper than a renovated modern station. It is also the point, where her map of Prague starts. Getting to know a city takes time. To build a own map of it, there must be a starting point. That is Praha-Holešovice.

The exhibition took place at Czech Inn Gallery, Prague, Czech Republic.
December 2011 - January 2012.
